Indonesia will transfer Mary Jane Veloso, a Philippine woman sentenced to death for drug trafficking, back to her home country in the early hours of Wednesday (December 18) morning, a senior official said on Monday (December 16).

Veloso was moved on Sunday (December 15) from a prison in Yogyakarta where she has been imprisoned for the past 14 years, to a female prison in the capital of Jakarta, Indonesia's deputy minister for law and human rights affairs, I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram, told a press conference on Monday.

She will fly to the Philippines from Jakarta on a commercial flight, he said.

The Philippine foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the repatriation.

Indonesia and the Philippines signed an agreement this month to repatriate Veloso, a domestic helper and mother of two, who was arrested in Yogyakarta in 2010 after being found with 2.6 kg of heroin concealed in a suitcase.
