MANILA — The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature have inducted four new Hall of Fame awardees as the awards ceremony returned to the Philippine International Convention Center on its 72nd year.

Induction into the Palanca Hall of Fame requires winning First Prize five times in any writing category. So far, only 30 writers have been honored with induction, including this year's winners.

Joining the Hall of Fame are author Eros Sanchez Atalia, poet and writer Mikael de Lara Co, and playwrights Miguel Antonio Alfredo V. Luarca and playwright Joshua Lim So, a feat that organizers said "cements their legacy in Philippine literature."

Also honored at the awards were 54 winners across 22 writing categories, with 31 of the awardees new names in literature.

Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jun Robles Lana was guest of honor at the awards night and was Gawad Dangal ng Lahi awardee.

Lana has won 12 Palanca Awards and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006.

Established in 1951, the Palanca Awards are named after businessman and philanthropist Carlos Palanca, Sr. and sponsored by the Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc. The awards have honored 2,580 Filipino authors with medals and certificates.
