MANILA — The Office of the President (OP) is set to review two large boxes of reports and evidence from the Local Water Utilities Administration’s (LWUA) investigation on complaints against the services of PrimeWater, Malacañang said on Tuesday.

The LWUA earlier said that it has “no choice but to act forthwith” and investigate the Villar-owned utility company after it received numerous complaints via the Office of the President’s Citizens’ Complaint Center Hotline 8888.

“Nakatanggap na rin tayo ng kopya, isang folder po siya ang report at dalawang boxes na balikbayan boxes,” Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a Palace press briefing.

“Ito po ay aaralin at asahan ninyo na mabilis itong aaralin para sa consumers ng PrimeWater,” she said.

Castro did not give a timeline as to when the Palace review would conclude, but said that appropriate legal actions would be taken.

“Definitely gagawa tayo ng legal na aksyon. Aksyon na naaayon sa batas, walang masasagasaan pero dapat para sa taong bayan,” she said.

While the government has no power to rescind the joint venture deals, the investigation will determine how water districts can terminate their agreements with PrimeWater, LWUA administrator Jose Salonga said in an earlier interview.

Of the over 100 water districts in the Philippines that are covered by joint venture partnership agreements, 74 have inked deals with PrimeWater. Most of its operations are in Batangas, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Cabanatuan, Tarlac, Camarines Norte, Subic, among others.

Among the complaints against PrimeWater are the persistent lack of water supply, and murky water discharged from faucets.
