MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated that the Villar-owned Siquijor Island Power Corp. (SIPCOR) should deliver its promises under its power supply agreement with the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PROSIELCO), or terminate the contract.

The Philippine leader had earlier ordered a full legal review and audit of the agreement between SIPCOR and PROSIELCO as he vowed to hold liable those behind the power crisis in Siquijor.

“Rine-review na namin. Pero like any contract, kung non-compliant ka, that breaks the contract,” he said.

The President, however, said that the government's priority is to address the power situation in the province, which had affected local residents and its tourist-driven economy.

He said authorities have brought two power generators to the province to temporarily resolve the power shortage.

“They are now in Siquijor, already functioning, maayos na. We even had to provide the fuel. In-advance pa ng gobyerno yung fuel dahil hindi naman kami dapat ang gagastos dyan. Ang mahalaga rito, hindi mo pinaparusahan yung tao," he said.

"So kahit kung sinong nagkamali, hindi yan ang priority natin. Ang priority natin, makapag-deliver ng kuryente sa bawat bahay. And that's what we did,” he added.

Marcos ordered that a permanent solution to the power crisis should be in place in Siquijor within six months.
