MANILA (UPDATED) — Usually calm and composed across numerous hearings investigating her citizenship and supposed links to Chinese-backed illegal POGOs, Alice Guo became emotional on Friday (September 27) after being shown an excerpt from an Al Jazeera documentary about a self-confessed Chinese spy.

The documentary, which centers on tycoon She Zhijiang, includes a dossier on Guo Hua Ping, with a photo resembling the dismissed Bamban mayor and with familiar details of her birth place and mother.

In the documentary, She Zhijiang, claimed that Guo Hua Ping, allegedly Guo’s real name, had asked him for money to fund her candidacy for mayor of Bamban.

However, She Zhijiang said he did not give any money to Guo because he didn’t want to “offend the government of the Philippines,” as stated in the English translation of the video.

The documentary also showed a document claiming that Guo is the daughter of a Chinese woman named Lin Wen Yi.

It also mentioned Guo’s alleged address in Fujian Province in China, which, the network’s researcher found was the local office of the Chinese Communist Party.

Residents in the area also reportedly recognized Guo as Lin Wen Yi’s daughter, who left their village in 2002.

She Zhijiang said he and Guo Hua Ping “dedicated [their] lives to China’s Ministry of State Security,” and urged her to “tell the world the truth” if she doesn't want to be “eliminated.”

'CHINESE SPIES EVERYWHERE'

According to Davao Oriental 2nd District Rep. Cheeno Almario, who presented the documentary to the House panels, the allegations made in the report are crucial.

“So Mr. Chair, I’d like to point out to this committee that even if we have been making our own research, pulling up our own inquiries, this is another source from a completely different party, and is unrelated to what we do,” Almario said.

“There are Chinese spies all over, at least, in this case, Myanmar — but here also in the Philippines,” he added.

Almario also noted that Guo seems to not have been raised in the Philippines as she claims, as people from Fujian in the documentary recognized her.

“I think this in itself speaks volumes na. Again, nakakainis na time in time again, dine-deny ni Guo Hua Ping lahat ng mga question na tinatanong namin sa kanya,” he said.

However, Guo claimed that she did not know the Chinese spy featured in the documentary.

Robert Ace Barbers.

Barbers also asked Guo for her reaction to being called a Chinese spy in the video.

“Hindi po ako spy. Totally po hindi ako spy. Hindi ako ang nasa picture at hindi rin po ako ang sinasabi niya,” Guo firmly stated.

“Itong tao na nasa video po kanina, I’ll find a way para, hindi ko po alam kung papaano, pero I’ll talk to my lawyer specially the network, magdedemanda po ako,” She added.

'RELAX KA LANG'

PBA Party-list Rep. Margarita Nograles also asked Guo what She Zhijang could gain by naming her.

“Your honor, I think it is better for you to ask him kasi siya po ang naglabas ng video, so siya po ang makakaalam kung ano yung makakapag-benefit po sa kanya, definitely, hindi po ako spy,” Guo stressed.

“Relax ka lang, bakit ka galit?” Nograles asked.

“Kasi po ganito rin ‘yong nangyari last time, sinasabi po nila spy ako, mahal ko po ang Pilipinas, Filipino po ako, hindi po ako spy,” Guo responded.

“You don’t have to be so riled up if you know the truth,” Nograles reminded Guo.

Guo agreed when a lawmaker observed that she was becoming emotional, saying, “Your honor, emotional po ako dahil unfair po para sa akin na sabihin po ako na spy po ako.”

Guo went on to say she intends to take legal steps against She Zhijiang and Al Jazeera over the allegations in the documentary.
