MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday said she is not going anywhere after some lawmakers suggested that she resign for her refusal to personally defend the 2025 budget of her office.

Duterte was responding to remarks by Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Raul Angelo Bongalon that she seems uninterested in "her duties and functions" as Vice President and can be asked to quit. There has been no formal call for her to resign.

"Hindi ako sasagot sa 'Young Guns' dahil kailangan ko sumagot sa 32 million na bumoto sa akin. Hindi sa isa o dalawang tao. Hindi ako aalis dito dahil nilagay ako ng mga tao dito believing I will work for the country," Duterte said in a press conference.

(I will not respond to the 'Young Guns' because I answer to 32 million who voted for me and not to just one or two people. I am not stepping down because the people put me here believeing I will work for the country)

The 'Young Guns' is a group of House members who are 40 years old and below, with some of them on their first terms as representatives.

The House of Representatives rescheduled the plenary deliberations on the Office of the Vice President's budget hoping Duterte would show up.

Duterte, however, said she would just attend the Senate's budget deliberations.

The Vice President earlier accused some lawmakers of plotting her impeachment in a bid to dismantle her potential 2028 presidential bid.

“Sa tingin ko sa nangyayari wala silang kaso sa impeachment kaya sila hanap ng hanap sa kung ano gagamitin nila… Gumawa sila ng isa pang track na resignation,” she said.

“They are trying to make a case for impeachment… dahil wala silang ebidensya, nagfi-fishing sila sa mga tanong sa loob,” she said.

When asked if she was willing to attend future House investigations, the Vice President said: “We take it one hearing at a time… When we receive an invitation, pinapadala siya sa legal, dini-discuss namin.”

“Makakasagot sila (Office of the Vice President staff) pero ang hindi nila ma-control ay yung paninira sa pamilya nila… Yun ang concern ng lahat sa OVP,” she said.

The House Appropriations Committee earlier slashed the OVP’s proposed P2-billion 2025 budget to about P700 million.

The OVP does not expect the Senate to give the agency an increment, Duterte said.
