MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has appointed singer Imelda Papin to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) as an "acting member" of the Board of Directors.

Marcos himself administered Papin's oath as seen on a Presidential Communications Office's Facebook post. 

Under its charter, the PCSO has five members who are appointed by the President and who are authorized to propose, subject to presidential approval, rules and regulations on lotteries and on horse races.

members of the PCSO Board were paid salaries of between P1.6 million and P2.03 million last year, according to the 2023 Report on Salaries and Allowances of the Commission on Audit.

WHO IS IMELDA PAPIN?

Papin, local showbiz’s “jukebox queen” who rose to fame in 1970s, has had a long history in politics outside her decades-long music career.

She previously sought congressional seats representing districts in Bulacan and Camarines Sur, but was unsuccessful in those races. The highest position she ran for was senator in 2010; she, however, also lost then.

Last year, Papin released her biopic "Loyalista" in celebration of her 45th year in the industry.

"Loyalista" follows the singer's life after she left her career in the Philippines to be at the side of former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. and his wife Imelda Marcos in Hawaii.
