The pair has touched the hearts of thousands on the internet, thanks to the videos posted by Trexy’s owner, Monica Isabel, who hopes to show the world how lovable pets are.

Isabel said the duo's friendship started "out of the curiosity" of the "introverted and shy" Yuri about her dog.

"The kid was fascinated by him, so he would ask all kinds of questions about Trexy, 'Mabait ba siya?', 'Pwede ba siyang hawakan?', 'Nagagalit ba siya?' Hanggang sa naging comfortable na siya, and lagi na niyang binibisita sa gate namin si Trexy," Isabel told ABS-CBN News.

Isabel said it took some time for the pair's friendship to blossom. Her family wanted to let Trexy get comfortable with sharing his space before letting their neighbor’s kid play with him.

Since then, Trexy and the eight-year-old Yuri have been inseparable and have made friends with other children in their village.

Videos uploaded by Isabel show the dog and his young friends playing in the street, frolicking in the beach, or just simply watching TV together. The Tiktok and Facebook pages featuring their adventures have a combined 200,000 followers.

“Naa-amaze pa rin ako sa friendship nila kasi hindi ko naman akalain na yung dog ko could have friends na hindi kapamilya or kakilala and Yuri genuinely cares for Trexy and I love that he doesn’t treat him na kalarong aso, but like a real kid na kaibigan," Isabel said.

For Isabel, the bond between her dog and the kids in their neighborhood is a testament that humans and animals can be best friends, too.

"Just like what the stranger in the field told me, may mga na-inspire nga talagang mga viewers. Yung perspective nila sa large breeds nagbago and they realized na dogs can be friends naman pala with kids, na dogs can be friendly and they’re not too scary when treated right," Isabel said.

"I receive comments and messages na nakikipag-play na yung dogs nila with other kids, na they were inspired by Trexy. Some people got inspired to give the best life for their furbabies while they can. So I guess, it’s my fave kasi it did its purpose," she added.
