Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/FileMANILA -- The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) assured Mary Jane Veloso and her family that they will be given assistance if Veloso’s transfer to the Philippines pushes through.

Veloso has been imprisoned in Indonesia since 2010 and is on death row for drug trafficking.

On Wednesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed that the Indonesian government approved her return to the Philippines where she will continue to serve her sentence.

DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac could not give details of the transfer but said they will provide welfare assistance.

“Already we have been helping the family noong si Sec. Toots Ople ay nagbigay na ng assistance, financial assistance kay nanay Celia and the family. So patuloy lang on the welfare side, which is the area ng DMW anyway. We stand ready to provide any necessary assistance,” Cacdac said on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

“Kung ano man ang pangangailangan niya ay we can coordinate this with the proper authority and provide it accordingly. Kung ano man ang mabibigay ng DMW and, of course, 'yung pamilya, as I mentioned, we will keep in close touch with nanay Celia and the family here in the Philippines. If it entails having to facilitate or assist the family of Mary Jane, to visit her or to see her, then we will do so. We will assist in that regard,” Cacdac explained.
