MANILA—Brunei football team captain Faiq Jefri Bolkiah was rushed to the Manila Doctor's Hospital on Sunday night after suffering an allergic reaction to peanuts, the team's medical staff, Faisal Hashim, told ABS-CBN.

This was confirmed by Brunei football team coach Aminuddin Jumat.

The popular Faiq is among the Southeast Asian athletes who are in the country to compete in the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). He is the nephew of Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, and the son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah.

Faisal said the incident happened during dinnertime on Sunday, at the hotel in Manila where they are billeted.

"It was in the curry. His lips got swollen and his throat felt tight. I brought him to the Manila Doctor's Hospital myself accompanied by one of the staff," Faisal said.

Faisal said that information about Faiq's allergy to peanuts was clearly stated when his provided information about the athletes to organizers.

Faiq has fully recovered and is doing fine, Faisal said. But Faisal requested that the ingredients in every meal be listed in order to prevent a repeat of the incident.

The hotel's Executive Chef declined to comment as of posting, but said the hotel staff would consider the request.

Meanwhile, Athletes’ Village head chef Bruce Lim, in a press conference, assured the public that they will address any dietary restriction or allergy of the athletes.
