Some 60 houses were destroyed after a fire hit Jaro district, Iloilo City on Saturday. Zeny Quilantang, ABS-CBN News
A fire razed about 60 houses in Barangay Benedicto, Jaro district, Iloilo City Saturday afternoon.
The fire hit at about 3 p.m. and quickly spread to houses, according to Fire Chief Insp. Bartolome Belira.
He added that firefighters had difficulty getting to the scene because of narrow streets and heavy traffic.
Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III said he has ordered the city social welfare department to distribute food packs to fire victims and assured residents they will receive financial help.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
Residents left homeless by the fire were relocated at the barangay hall and Jaro gymnasium.
