MANILA - Philippine National Police Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Monday congratulated the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for their investigation and intelligence work that led to the arrest of criminal suspects.

The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption recognized outstanding CIDG personnel and the unit's Oplan Pagtutugis for their work, which they said gave hope to victims of heinous crimes in obtaining justice for their loved ones.

CIDG Director PDir Roel Obusan received the award.

In his speech, Dela Rosa cited the CIDG's arrest of former Philippine National Oil Co. lawyer Atty John Fabico in connection with the killing of his wife 15 years ago.

Fabico was apprehended along Kapitan Tikong Street in Malate, Manila by CIDG police officers last August 27.

"I commend our outstanding PNP personnel, especially the CIDG in their accomplishments, one of which is the arrest of John Fabico, the 6th most wanted person in Manila, for parricide for the kilking of his wife in 2002," Dela Rosa said.

The country's top cop enjoined CIDG officials and personnel to be models of good work, and challenged the rest of the PNP to do their best in fulfilling their mandate of serving and protecting the Filipino people.

"This is a colorful page in the CIDG's history. Hindi sila nagpapa-bribe, hindi nagpapatakot. Ginagawa lang nila ang kanilang trabaho. This is called law enforcement without fear or favor."

Dela Rosa said the CIDG, in their various operations, arrests 2,000 fugitives each month.

The PNP and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office also signed a memorandum of agreement on financial assistance for the PNP General Hospital.

A grant in the amount of P21.06 million was given by the PCSO to the PNP for the procurement of medical equipment, which include cardiac monitors, oxygen tanks, heavy duty pulse oximeters and infusion pumps, to name a few.

"Daming Pilipino ang namamatay dahil walang gamot. Sana suportahan natin ang PCSO. To the PCSO, this assistance will go a long way, not just for PNP personnel, but for all those who seek help from the PNP General Hospital," Dela Rosa said.
