MANILA - Typhoon Queenie has further intensified, but will not make land in any part of the Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said early Tuesday.

PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the trough of the typhoon, however, may dump rain over the eastern section of the country.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the eye of Queenie was last spotted at 1,250 kilometers east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan.

The 17th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year, Queenie currently packs maximum sustained winds of 190 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 235 kph.

Queenie (international name Kong-rey) is moving northwest at a speed of 15 kph and is expected to leave the country on Friday, October 5.

Rojas said tropical cyclone warning signals may not be raised, but strong to gale-force winds are expected over northern Luzon.

Cagayan Valley Region, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms because of Queenie's trough or extension.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers because of localized thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
