MANILA -- A member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and a purported asset refused to take a drug test after they were caught allegedly using illegal drugs in San Pedro, Laguna.

The suspects, PDEA agent Richard Gaufo and his companion Joseph Martin Patrick Borjal, were nabbed Saturday when police raided Borjal’s house in Barangay Pacita 1 through a warrant for illegal possession of firearms.

“Hindi naman siya [Gaufo] ang target. Ang target namin 'yung isa. Pagpasok namin... andun silang dalawa nagpa-pot session,” said Police Major Ryan Orapa, chief intelligence officer of the Laguna Police.

Authorities were surprised to also find 10 sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia and a fake PDEA identification card with Borjal’s name.

In a statement, PDEA director general Aaron Aquino said Gaufo’s arrest is proof that crooked law enforcers exist even in the agency.
