MANILA - Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Ed Galvante admitted Monday that some corrupt practices remain rampant within his agency, saying he is ready to comply with President Rodrigo Duterte's order for all appointed government officials to vacate their positions in order to solve this problem.

Galvante said he focused on ridding the LTO of fixers and addressing various complaints in some regional offices since he assumed office on July 1.

The LTO has seen improvement in these fronts, he said, but it may not have been enough for President Duterte, who ascended into power with a promise to bring societal change.

"Hindi naman siguro absolute na malinis pero iyung talagang nagpapabigat ay natutugunan natin kaya lang hindi ganoon kabilis kagaya ng kagustuhan ng ating Pangulo na makita talaga ang pagbabago," he said.

(We may not have cleaned the agency entirely, but we have addressed the heaviest issues although not as fast as the President may have expected to.)

"Hindi ko na kailangang magpaliwanag, alam kong kulang ang nagawa. Kasi doon sa sinasabing kailangang magawa, maaaring hindi ganoong ka-bilis ang nagawa nating pagbabago," he added.

(I don't need to explain anymore, I know that our achievements were lacking. We were not able to bring change fast enough.)

Duterte on Sunday declared the posts of some 1,000 presidential appointees vacant after revealing reports of continued corruption in regulatory offices, citing LTO and the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Galvante said he did not directly hear the President's words, but he will vacate his post once a formal directive has been issued.

"Gusto kong maging parte ng solusyon, hindi ng problema. Kaya kung hinihingi iyan ng ating Pangulo, ako'y susunod," he said.

(I want to be part of the solution, not the problem. If the President really orders my resignation, I will obey.)

Aside from Galvante, LTFRB chief Martin Delgra also said he will leave his office once he receives official word from Malacañang.
