MANILA - Nine political parties, including those led by Sen. Cynthia Villar and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, have forged an alliance with the regional political party Hugpong ng Pagbabago chaired by Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Among the parties that inked its alliance with Hugpong were Villar's Nacionalista Party and Marcos' Ilocano Timpuyog, as well as:

- the Nationalist People's Coalition represented by former Batangas Rep. Mark Leandro Mendoza
- National Unity Party represented by Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro
- Alyansa Bol-anon Alang sa Kausaban (ABAKA),
- Aggrupation of Party for Progress (APP)
- Pampanga Kambilan represented by Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda
- Padayon Pilipino
- and Serbisyo sa Bayan represented by QC Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Duterte-Carpio denied that the alliance would back her supposed bid for Senate in 2019.

"I’m not running for senator. We are just really trying to unite everybody who wants to help the administration of President Duterte until 2022," she said in a speech.

Hugpong, she mentioned, is also open to an alliance with PDP-Laban led by her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, after a power struggle in its ranks is addressed.

A faction of the PDP-Laban led by a Rogelio Garcia recently replaced party president, Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, and elected its own set of leaders.

"Once maayos ng Presidente yun, then we are really open because we need other national parties na ka-alyado," Duterte-Carpio said.

(Once the President fixes that, then we are are really open because we need other national parties as allies.)

Also at the Hugpong event were Senator JV Ejercito, Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano, and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos.
