MANILA - “O, dilawan ako ngayon.”

Newly-elected Senator Imee Marcos sent a unifying message in the political sphere as she walked through the red carpet of President Rodrigo Duterte’s fourth State of the Nation Address wearing a yellow gown — the color popularly associated with her family’s political rival.

Marcos, daughter of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, arrived at Batasang Pambansa on Monday donning a Mak Tumang creation which was named “La Filigrina.” It was crafted with sunset ombre “solihiya” inspired fabric partnered with gold tambourine medallion.

In a Facebook post, Tumang explained the gown symbolizes the challenge to unify the divided politics of the country.

“This is a testament of the ever-relevant challenge for all of us to look beyond 'political' colors. Rather, be inspired by our forefathers' courage and bravery which ensue that the light of the sun will always shine bright bringing hope for our beloved country,” Tumang said.

Marcos claimed she chose to wear the gown despite its color to tell the public and critics to stop throwing hateful messages.

“Tama na ang bangayan,” Marcos said while walking towards the plenary hall of the Congress.

The neophyte senator also said in jest she is channeling Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray with her outfit as it was made by the same designer who created the iconic lava gown of the beauty queen.

“Very Catriona Gray ako ngayon,” she said to the press after being greeted by Rep. Geraldine Roman who first said the she is a ‘dilawan.’
