MANILA - The University of Santo Tomas will refund unused tuition this school year after it was forced to stop classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report by its official student paper.

The university will also review its tuition and other fees for next school year to consider the "new normal" following the pandemic, the Varsitarian said in a report released Wednesday.

Unused tuition, such as those for retreats or field trips, will be refunded while other fees may be refunded up to 50 percent, the university said in a memorandum dated Sunday.

UST's Vice Rector for Finance has recommended that the unused fees be credited next term, except for graduating students and those who request for cash refund.

The university could not end the term but professors were told to keep a maximum 3 gradable assessments per course for the remainder of the semester, according to the Varsitarian report.

UST said it would also release guidelines for those who failed to participate in the university's online learning scheme during the enhanced community quarantine.

A revised freshmen enrollment schedule will be released in June, it added.
