MANILA- The new commander of the Presidential Security Group rallied his men Tuesday to “leave no mistakes” as he formally assumed command of President Rodrigo Duterte’s official security detail.

Col. Jesus Durante III, in his first address as head of the PSG, urged his men to ignore critics and focus on their work.

“All PSG troopers under my watch must follow this dictum ‘leave no mistakes.’ Always bear in mind that the security gadgetry we possess will only be as effective as the people that use them,” he said in his speech during the PSG change of command ceremony in Malacañang.

“Leave the critics behind,” he added.

Durante, the former commander of the Presidential Escorts, replaced Brig. Gen. Jose Niembra as head of the PSG.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw Diwa” Class of 1992, Durante is the fourth PSG commander under Duterte.

Durante said the PSG under his leadership face “peculiar times” marked by Duterte’s “tough” pronouncements.

Among such pronouncements are the President’s criticism of oligarchs, and his hardline stance against illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality.

“I assure the Filipino people that the PSG under my command would not only do our best, but we would sacrifice our life and limb to protect the President of the Republic of the Philippines,” Durante said.

A seasoned scout ranger, Durante was the commanding officer of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion of the First Scout Ranger Regiment of the Philippine Army prior to heading the Presidential Escorts—a PSG unit tasked to provide close-in security force to the President, his family, and foreign dignitaries visiting the Philippines.
