Additional security features will be implemented in the ballots for May's midterm elections, the Commission on Elections said Monday.

Among these features are ultraviolet markings that will allow vote counting machines to detect whether or not the ballot is legitimate and if it has been tallied already, said Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.

The ballots also have serial numbers that would allow Comelec to deem them unusable if they are lost during delivery, he told radio DZMM.

The printing of the 64 million ballots started last Saturday and may be completed by mid-April, he said.
