Kim Chiu celebrated her 35th birthday last April 19 in Dubai. She traveled to the United Arab Emirates to further promote her movie with Paulo Avelino, My Love Will Make You Disappear. But the trip had an unexpectedly beautiful ending.

While in the Middle Eastern city, Kim had a birthday photo shoot there, making the most of the stunning desert landscape. "A year older and welcomed the sunrise that whispers hope, and I greeted it with gratitude," she said of her sunrise photo shoot, a sweet treat from her sister Kam Chiu, who planned this birthday shoot on the day they were scheduled to leave Dubai. "From Chinita Princess to Sahara Desert Princess real quick," she wittily captioned.

Kim took a five-day social media fast in time for the Holy Week and resumed her online activity on April 20, Easter Sunday, with this gorgeous surprise for her fans and followers. "It’s still 4.19 somewhere in the world—and I couldn’t let the day pass without saying THANK YOU," she wrote to express her gratitude for the birthday messages and wishes she received.

Birthdays are often an ideal time for introspection, and Kim spent this moment "deep in reflection." Here are Kim's key takeaways about life, growth, and gratitude, which can also serve as great reminders for all of us.

"As we age, we start to see things differently."

Perspective does change with age, and there's nothing wrong with this shift. Seeing things differently is not bad and could equate to growth and maturity. Now, Kim knows better than to let the external noise get to her and drown out her inner voice. "It’s not about the noise around us—it’s about what truly matters," she shared.

"Every day, I choose gratitude."

Not every day presents a winning moment, but waking up to a new day is a blessing. Like seeing a glass half full or half empty, a matter of perspective can also help us find things—even people—to be grateful for. Kim said, "I’m grateful for the big wins, the small moments, and everything in between. My heart is full... I wouldn’t be here without the love and support of my family, friends, and everyone who continues to believe in me. Every day, I choose gratitude. Grateful for the gift of life. Grateful for another year."

"Life is short."

"Life is short," Kim wrote, "and it’s meant to be lived, felt, and cherished." Living life to the fullest is a mantra she firmly holds onto. That's why, when it comes to her career, she's also open to exploring every opportunity that comes her way and trying new things that will challenge her. In a previous Metro.Style interview, when asked about the things on her bucket list, Kim reflected on the idea of living in the moment, saying, "I live one day at a time, kasi hindi mo alam baka bukas wala na. Kasi parang i-enjoy na lang ‘yung bawat araw na meron ka. Live in the moment and enjoy the moment."

"Wisdom isn’t just age—it’s how you grow through it."

As she enters Chapter 35 of her life, Kim embraces "another year to rise, reflect, and reinvent." As the saying goes, "With age comes wisdom." But gaining that wisdom must also come from learning through and growing from experiences. Connecting Kim's musings with a quote from Harry Styles, "Age is just a number, maturity is a choice," and we cannot agree more.

"Life isn’t perfect, but it is precious."

Even a successful person like Kim acknowledges that life doesn't always turn out the way we expect it to. But the gift of life is always worth celebrating. And because "it is precious," with many treasures waiting to be found, Kim said, "The older we get, the more we understand how important it is to cherish each moment and every person who walks alongside you on this journey."
