My Love Will Make You Disappear is a tale of love revolving around the Filipino feeling of “kilig.” It is a romantic-comedy film that follows the story of Sari (Kim Chiu), who’s believed to have been cursed by her mother so that everyone she loves will disappear. Growing up believing in that curse, she distances herself from falling for someone until he meets Jolo (Paulo Avelino), the problematic, burdened-with-debt inheritor grandson of Sari’s landlady and owner of their compound, Tahanan Homes, Lola Remy (Peewee O’Hara). 

After Lola Remy’s death, Jolo arrived at the compound to sell it to pay off his debt. But, upon learning Sari’s curse, he decided to make her fall in love in hopes that he would disappear and finally end his pain and misery.

My Love Will Make You Disappear is an uplifting movie and a breath of fresh air. It'll be hard for you to leave the movie theater without a smile and a heart excited to love and be loved. It is light and fun but filled with lessons and a good amount of heartache. It truly brings back the rom-com film for which Star Cinema is iconic.

Jolo and the residents of the "Tahanan Homes" teach that love comes in different ways, from different people, and in different circumstances. The couples and families in that community made us feel how heartwarming it is to have someone who has your back whenever you need it, wherever you are, and whatever you are going through. 

Each couple in the movie plays a significant role in showing everyone what love could look like. With Jeng (Lovely Abella) and Richie (Benj Manalo), you’ll learn how to love despite one’s disability, a story that imparts how love connects people more than words can say.

Through the pairing of Jesse (Migs Almendras) and Rom (Martin Escudero), the beauty of how love goes beyond the limits and norms of society is something you'll pick up. Love truly can conquer all. 

The relationship of Aling Nilda (Wilma Doesnt) and Bruno (Nico Antonio) shows that love is about doing everything for your partner and making things work no matter how inconvenient and hard life may be.

Lyka (Karina Bautista) and Carlo’s (Jeremiah Lisbo) story tells us that love is always worth fighting for.

And finally, with Sari and Jolo’s love story, you’ll learn that no amount of curses, problems, past mistakes, or hearsay can defy a love destined to last forever.

Each character is as significant as every shot. Director Chad V. Vidanes made another masterpiece with My Love Will Make You Disappear. Every angle, shot, and lighting contributes to the film's tone, and the vibrant color aligns perfectly with the colorful story and the characters’ radiant personalities. The thoughtful script also captivatingly complemented the beautiful shots as every pick-up line and comedic dialogue made the theater burst with laughter and that indescribable kilig. We have the screenplay by Isabelle Policarpio and Patrick Valencia and the story by Prime Cruz to thank for that. 

The main actors, Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino, once again proved why they are dubbed People’s Superstars. Their portrayals of Sari and Jolo were on point. The movie made us laugh and cry like crazy, and KimPau made us fall in love with their undeniable chemistry. Paulo's versatility as an actor further shines here. People may not have been used to him being in a rom-com film, but he surprised everyone with his comedic timing and ability to make anyone fall in love with his charisma. With her effortlessly bubbly personality and flair for seamlessly switching between drama and comedy, Kim showed how she truly owns this genre as the rom-com queen.

Fans and supporters rushed to SM Megamall for this film’s world premiere last March 25. Notable celebrities and friends walked the red carpet, including her It’s Showtime family and closest friends in showbiz, Angelica Panganiban and Bela Padilla.

The premiere night was wrapped up with Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino’s warm hug and everyone’s deafening kilig screams and applause.

The happiness and excitement of the cast were extended up to the film’s after-party where the ever-so-energetic Kim Chiu said, “Sa lahat ng mga nandito, thank you so much. Hindi naman ito mabubuo kung hindi dahil sa inyo… I pray for success for each and everyone.” 

Paulo Avelino added, “At the end of the day, naka-depende lagi ‘yan sa output and so far naman sa reaction at sa napanood ko kanina, happy naman tayong lahat.” Head of ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc. Kriz Gazmen mentioned that Star Cinema has a new rom-com director in director Chad Vidanes. And COO of Broadcast Cory V. Vidanes, teary eyed, shared that he’s proud of his son.

With the people’s clamor and positive feedback, the film claimed the highest first-day gross of a local film for 2025. As of this writing, Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino are on their flight to LA to visit some of the international screenings of their movie.

For fans of rom-coms or even just for casual viewers, this is a must-watch. This is a movie for those who are in love, in pain, and just want to love again. No curse can defy a true love’s kiss.
