MANILA — The Manila Police District (MPD) saw crowd estimates at Quiapo Church or the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno returning to normal on Black Saturday, April 19.

“‘Yung mismong simbahan ng Quiapo, kakaunti lang naman ‘yung ating pumupunta roon, ‘yung Visita Iglesia ba. Base dito sa ating CCTV monitoring natin doon—sinend sa atin, at nakita naman natin ‘yung mga deboto natin, ‘yung mga pumupunta doon hindi ganoon karami,” Ines said in a phone interview.

For the rest of the Holy Week, Ines does not expect crowds to reach 532,000 as it did for the nearly 12 hour long Nazareno Procession. This started and ended at Quiapo Church.

Pero madadagdagan ito ‘pag may mga deboto pa tayo na pumunta diyan na mga nakatayo. Siguro aabot ‘yan mga 3,000. Kung sakali na maraming pupunta diyan.”

Hourly masses are expected to start at 5:00 AM on April 20, Sunday with the last mass at 7 PM.

The MPD has yet to receive updates on the nine individuals, but Quiapo Church rector and parish priest Rev. Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan earlier said three were in serious condition.
