MANILA -- The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of Christian hope, and this hope continues to shine even in the darkest moments of life.

This was the central message of Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula during his homily at the Easter Vigil Mass at the Manila Cathedral on Holy Saturday.

"This Easter Vigil takes place in a very special year, the Jubilee Year of Hope. A time when the church invites us to rediscover how the resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of Christian hope," Advincula said.

He urged everyone to reflect on the three truth that give meaning to easter vigil.

1. Hope Defies Darkness

Advincula acknowledged the suffering, violence, and despair that people face in the world today but said that Easter is a reminder that these are not the end of the story.

"Even if life feels like Good Friday, we are an Easter people. The light of Christ shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it," he said.

2. Hope Is Guarded by God

Advincula reminded the faithful that hope is not rooted in human strength but in God’s unwavering presence.

"When we feel afraid of the future, remembet that our hope is not in human's strength but in God who never slumbers and never stops working for our salvation," he added.

3. Hope Calls Us to Be Witnesses

He urged the faithful to become bearers of hope in the world.

"We, too, must be witnesses of the ressurection. Christ is truly the reason for our joy and our mission," he said.

"Let us go forth from this Easter Vigil with hearts set on fire, knowing that the hope we carry is stronger than any darkness guarded by the love of God and meant to be shared with the world," he added.
