MANILA - Senatorial candidate Mark Lapid on Thursday belied accusations that his father, former action star Lito Lapid, is an "underperforming" senator.

In an interview on radio dzMM's "Ikaw na ba? Ang Senador para sa Pamilyang Pilipino," the younger Lapid said his father never hid the fact that he was only a high school graduate and is not good in speaking English.

At saka high school graduate po siya," said Lapid, who is running under Liberal Party (LP)-led Team Daang Matuwid coalition.

These, however, do not mean that his father has not performed well in the Senate.

He said he is proud of his father, who has filed a total of 263 bills, 16 of which were passed into law. One of these is Republic Act 9999 or the Free Legal Assistance Act.

Lapid said his father is also the author of the Biometrics Law.
