Dior shows have always been the platform to highlight the local craftsmanship and artisans in the city they’re showing. For Dior Cruise 2024, Maria Grazia Chiuri takes it to Mexico City where she describes the city as a “place for the soul.”
Her love for Mexico is greatly shown in the boxy silhouettes reminiscent of the garb Mexican abuelas wear in their every day. The airy shirts are paired with floor-grazing skirts, looking so fresh and light but with a hint of culture in them. Embroidery, textiles, and embellishments pepper the collection, bringing a sense of true Mexico into the pieces.
The hiupils rendered in various iteration made the collection respectful of the heritage of city. This was a garb Frida Kahlo was also known for, a Mexican artist Maria Grazia was inspired by for this show, among others Mexican artists.
