'Jeproks: The Musical' to feature songs of Pinoy rock legend Mike Hanopol

MANILA — Tanghalang Una Obra is set to produce “Jeproks: The Musical,” featuring the songs of Pinoy rock legend Mike Hanopol.

During the contract signing on Wednesday  in Katipunan, director Frannie Zamora shared that the show is under development with 13-15 songs of Hanopol and casting is also underway. Zamora and Hanopol were joined by the production's supervising producer Johnny Blue.

When asked if any of the included songs in the musical were his favorites, Hanopol replied: "Hindi ako pwede maglagay ng paborito, kasi ang mga kanta parang mga anak ko yan. Lahat yun, paborito ko lahat."

Zamora said this musical will be the best platform to introduce Hanopol and his body of work in the music industry to the new generation. 

"Kilala yung mga kanta ni Sir Mike, pero yung sumulat at kumanta hindi nila kilala. So at this point, kailangan namin siyang i-reintroduce sa Gen Z, sa mga kabataan ngayon na gusto pa ring makarinig ng ganitong klaseng music," said Zamora.

"There will be new and special arrangements doon sa areglo ni Sir Mike, makikita nila yung klasikong awitin na aangkop pa rin sa panahong ito," he added.

The musical is slated for November 2025.

"We promise you that this show will be one of kind. Kami ay lilibot sa buong Pilipinas and hopefully sa buong mundo," said Zamora.
