Wonwoo of the popular K-pop boy band SEVENTEEN is set to start his mandatory military service on April 3, his agency said Wednesday.

"We would like to share the news that Wonwoo of SEVENTEEN will be starting his mandatory military service from April 3 this year," Pledis Entertainment wrote in a notice on fan community platform Weverse.

Due to this development, the 28-year-old idol will be unable to participate in some of SEVENTEEN's upcoming activities, including the Tecate Pa'l Norte festival in Mexico and a fan meeting in Japan.

However, Wonwoo will attend the "SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND" concert, scheduled for March 20 to 21, and appear in other pre-recorded content.

Pledis reminded fans that there would be no official event on the day of Wonwoo's enlistment.

"We kindly request that you refrain from visiting the site of his alternative military service," it added.

Wonwoo is the second SEVENTEEN member to enlist in the military following Jeonghan.

All able-bodied men in South Korea are required to serve at least 18 months in the military as the country remains technically at work with its neighboring North Korea.

The 13-member SEVENTEEN ranked third in the list of best-selling recording artists of 2024, behind Taylor Swift and Drake, based on a ranking released by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

The group visited the country in January for the two-day stop of their "Right Here" tour, held at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan.
