(UPDATE) Filipino indie rock band Ang Bandang Shirley announced Wednesday its disbandment, following a controversy involving one of its former members.

The announcement was made by members Debb Acebu, Paolo Arciga, Miggy Abesamis and Kathy Gener through a statement posted on the band's Facebook account.

The members explained that the band could no longer continue following allegations relating to former member Ean Aguila in January.

Though the statement did not specify the nature of the allegations, a former partner of Aguila accused him of grooming in a series of Instagram Stories posted in January.

The allegations against Aguila "significantly affected the band and the members," the musicians said in the statement, adding that "we strongly do not condone his behavior and we urged him to take full responsibility for his actions."

While Aguila decided to quit the group, the remaining members "decided not to continue as a band."

"This is the end for Ang Bandang Shirley," they said.

"We thank you for all your support and for listening to our music throughout the years," they told fans.

Performing since 2003, Ang Bandang Shirley is known for songs such as "Nakauwi Na," "Umaapaw" and "Siberia."

Throughout their decades-long run, the ensmeble has released three full albums: "Themesongs" in 2008, "Tama Na Ang Drama" in 2012, and "Favorite" in 2017.

The band is also known for being featured in the soundtrack of the 2012 film "Ang Nawawala." — With a report from Bryan Reyes, ABS-CBN News
