The 2002 romantic movie A Walk to Remember is set to have a remake.

The said reboot is now in development at Monarch Media, as reported by PEOPLE.

"A Walk to Remember has endured as a beloved coming-of-age drama, captivating audiences with its heartfelt story of young love, personal growth and the power of faith for decades," Steve Barnett of Monarch Media remarked as per Deadline.

He went on: "We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks’ timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film’s producers, Denise and Hunt."

Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry, who produced the original movie starring Mandy Moore and Shane West, will work on the remake.  

The director of the remake is yet to be confirmed.

Based on the novel by Nicolas Sparks with the same title, A Walk to Remember follows the story of "two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is sentenced to perform community service," as per the movie's IMDb. 

Mandy previously expressed her support if the film would have a remake. "I would love to see it. It's been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we've earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point," she said. 

The actress also shared the person she had in mind if ever there would be a reboot, saying: "I don’t know, Olivia Rodrigo or something like that.”

The original A Walk to Remember movie was released on January 25, 2002 and had a worldwide total gross of $47.49 million. 

In an interview with New York Post in January 2024, lead actor Shane remarked that he was open to reunite again with Mandy, but this time in a TV series. "We want to make the next iteration to hopefully stand out so we don’t just do it for the sake of it. The joke is if it’s some sort of romantic drama that she lives and I don’t, and let’s reverse the roles. But we’ll see one day,” he said in the interview. 

The actor went on: "I think a series would be pretty cool because at least with the series, you’d have a lot you can work with from week to week. Well, maybe even animation." 

Shane expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported A Walk To Remember when it was released. "Even in the moment, I was just so happy that people liked it and loved it, and it kind of helped me along," he stated.
