Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok shared that he was instantly drawn to Wife of a 21st Century Prince the moment he read the script.

"As soon as I read the script, I immediately felt that I wanted to take on this project," he said in an interview with Elle Korea as translated by Soompi.

Woo-seok teased that audiences will see a different side of him in this new role.

"I hope viewers will look forward to seeing a new side of Byeon Woo-seok that I haven’t shown before. I’m personally very excited as well," he remarked.

The actor will headline the series alongside IU.

According to a previous report of Naver as translated by Soompi, MBC's Wife of a 21st Century Prince is a a romantic story set in an alternate version of Korea, where a constitutional monarchy still exists. The plot follows Sung Hee-joo, a chaebol heiress who despite her wealth remains a commoner by status. She crosses paths with Lee Ahn (Woo-seok), a prince who, despite his royal lineage, finds himself with nothing. Their contrasting worlds collide in a love story filled with challenges.

Woo-seok portrays Lee Ahn, the king’s second son, who has lived a largely unnoticed life. However, his world shifts drastically after crossing paths with Sung Hee-joo, a woman who reshapes his outlook on life.

IU steps into the role of Sung Hee-joo, the ambitious and sharp-minded second daughter of Korea’s most powerful conglomerate family. Though blessed with beauty and wealth, her lack of noble status complicates her otherwise perfect life, leading her toward an unforeseen bond with Prince Lee Ahn.

Woo-seok recently starred in the hit drama Lovely Runner. The series further catapulted Woo-seok to international fame.

Reflecting on the past year, the actor expressed gratitude for his journey.

"[I] plan to give my all as I move forward with them. I believe that giving my best in every moment of life is the only way I can truly be proud of myself. I want to hold on to this mindset and continue to maintain it," he told Elle.
