MANILA – The 50th edition of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has surpassed its P800 million-target gross ticket sales on Wednesday, January 15, exactly three weeks since it started screening the 2024 entries in theaters.

The top three films based on gross sales receipts, as bared by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in alphabetical order, were "And The Breadwinner Is...", "Green Bones", and "The Kingdom."

Star Cinema earlier Wednesday announced that Vice Ganda's "And The Breadwinner Is..." has already earned over P400 million ticket sales as of Tuesday, January 14, which is half of the total gross sales the MMFF 2024 has recorded.

"#MMFF50 has leveled up the standards of the annual festival in terms of quality of entries, inclusivity, the revival of the Student Short Film Festival with the [Film Development Council of the Philippines], education, promotions, subsidy for block screenings and talk back sessions, even the trophy, the awards, the parade and the general conduct of activities," MMFF said in a statement on Wednesday, quoting MMDA chair and concurrent MMFF overall chairman Atty. Don Artes.

The organizers also thanked its stakeholders and the public for "making its 50th edition one for the books."

"Rest assured that the MMFF will continue all efforts by encouraging our stakeholders, especially the local entertainment industry, to create quality films. The key to our success is in collaborating, helping and supporting each other instead of fueling divisiveness, coming out with unsubstantiated claims, and sweeping judgments,” Artes promised.

The MMFF also noted that there were "lessons to be learned" but they are acknowledging all the efforts of the team behind the festival.

"It was a success as it upped the standards from the previous MMFFs, and by saying so, we redefined our indicators beyond box office returns, which is worthy of another study, moving forward," the MMFF chair added.
