9/11 holds space in history as it marks the tragedy that occurred in September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center in New York. Today, a memorial and a museum stand at the site as a tribute to the lives sacrificed. While stories have been shared about the losses then, many stories were also told about the profound beauty of humanity that shone through those dark times. One such story is encapsulated in the award-winning musical Come From Away. 

GMG Productions and Stages have revealed that they will be staging Come From Away in Manila as part of their 2025 offering. It will be held at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater and will run for a strictly limited season from June 6 to 29, 2025. 

Come From Away is a true story about the generosity of the residents of a small town who chose to open their doors to 7,000 airline passengers who found themselves unexpectedly grounded in the aftermath of the 9/11 crisis.

“This show is an inspiring celebration of humanity and people coming together,” shares Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions. “It’s a story that Manila audiences will not only relate to but will also find profoundly uplifting, especially in today’s unpredictable times.”

What makes this production extra special is that it will feature the talents of a Filipino-led cast.

The roster includes Philippine theater personalities such as Cathy Azanza-Dy, Caisa Borromeo, Garrett Bolden, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Becca Coates, Steven Cadd, Mayen Cadd, Rycharde Everley, Topper Fabregas, Sheila Francisco, Carla Guevara Laforteza, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Gian Magdangal, George Schulze, and Chino Veguillas.  

“Let me tell you, we have assembled the best of the best Philippine theater has to offer,” said Audie Gemora, founder of Stages Productions.

Come From Away has gained multiple awards, including the Tony Award for Best Direction. It also won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical, Best Theatre Choreography, Best Sound Design, and Outstanding Achievement in Music, as well as the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Book of a Musical. 

For its Manila run, even the creatives and crew will be Filipino-led. 

“With Come From Away, GMG Productions is proud to embark on this exciting new chapter, working with a Filipino-led cast and crew for the first time,” added Carlos. “This production is a celebration of the incredible talent in the Philippines, and we cannot wait to share this powerful story with audiences.”

Leading the creatives is Michael Williams as Director and Rony Fortich as Musical Director. 

“Im thrilled to work with some of the most talented artists in Philippine theater to bring our passion and storytelling to this incredible production,” said Michael. 

Joining them are Dephine Buencamino as Choreographer, Harry Tabner as Lighting Designer, Luke Swaffield as Sound Designer, Kayla Teodoro as Production Designer, Myrene Santos as Hair and Makeup Designer, Hershee Tatiado as Costume Designer, and Joel Goldes as the dialect coach from the original Broadway production. 

“Our collective desire has always been to produce a show championing Filipino talent. We all believe this is the perfect show to do just that,” Audie added. “The energy surrounding this production is through the roof. This is going to be epic!” 

Come From Away will be shown for a strictly limited season from June 6 to 29, 2025 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati. Tickets can be purchased via Ticketworld starting February 22, 2025.
