Since being introduced to the world of tennis last year, actress Valerie Concepcion has fully embraced the sport, even going as far as to enter and compete in two tennis tournaments this year. The 37-year-old mother of two shared  just how proud she is of her first sports achievement in her recent Instagram post.

She wrote, “Last month was a tennis dream come true for me! ✨ Tennis was introduced to me by my good friend @krizgazmen last year, and after a year of training (and getting addicted to playing with friends), I finally had the courage to join not one, but two tennis tournaments! 🎾 I had the privilege of competing in both the Manila Tennis Enthusiasts Team Tennis and the TennEast Grand Slam 'Melbourne' Mixed Doubles Class C2 events. We ended up as finalists in MTE and champions in @tenneastacademy! 🙈 So proud of my teammates and partner! ❤️ Till our next tourney!”

When not honing her tennis skills in the court, Valerie is busy being a doting mom to  two kids and a wife to her non-showbiz husband Francis Sunga whom she married in 2019. Last October, they celebrated their son Viktor Francis’s dedication and his 1st birthday.  Valerie also has a 20-year-old daughter named Heather Fiona from a previous relationship.

In an interview with Boy Abunda in 2023, Valerie shared her struggle as a single mom and why she considers her daughter a blessing after having her at just 16 years old.

“Teenager pa lang ako, ang dami ko nang pinagdaanan. I had to mature right away na hindi ko na-enjoy pagiging teenager ko. I mean, I was able to but I didn't fully enjoy pagiging teenager ko. I’ve sacrificed so much for her. I had to make sure na hindi ko na-prioritize ang pagiging teenager ko. Tina-try ko so hard to a mom and dad to her.”
