It’s been a year since Angela Ken made her theatrical debut in the Sandbox Collective musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee followed by the musical Once on This Island last September 2024. The Star Magic artist said that her appetite for doing theater has definitely been awakened.

“It changed me a lot. It transformed me a lot in all aspects of my craft. I love how I entered theater in the most perfect timing kasi I didn’t expect na kailangan ko pala ang teatro sa buhay ko. The discipline, the practice, the art, na na-embody ko. Even the community ng mga nasa teatro, laking tulong nun sa akin. Kaya if ever man na magkaroon tayo ng mga future na musicals, I’ll see you guys there (laughs),” she shared with PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview.

Even after starring in iWantTFC’s youth oriented romantic comedy-drama musical series Lyric and Beat in 2022 did not fully prepare Angela for the adjustment to performing live shows on stage.

“Maybe it’s how I take every single show differently. Well lahat naman dapat ng show, mapa-teatro, or event or gigs sa music, kailangan naman talaga iba iba yung pakiramdam mo. Pero kasi ang teatro, may isang storya lang. Alam mo na yung bawat pahina, alam mo na yung mga dapat mong sabihin. So for me, yun yung pinaka difficult na part pero yun din yung na-practice ko at natutunan ko na strategy. Na just don’t expect things, just always think na hindi pa talaga nangyayari ito sa buhay mo. And yun din yung i-na-apply ko sa bawat opportunity, at bawat stage performance ko,” she explained.

This year, Angela said that she can assure fans that she has been back to focusing on her music even though she is not turning her back on theater opportunities when they come.

“I want to say that I’m still open to any opportunity but siguro ang pinaka-ma-a-assure ko sa inyo is my music is going to be exciting, it’s going to be new and it’s going to be very big. Yung transition ko ngayon through my art is more on being me talaga,” she added.

Angela also revealed that her dream role on stage would be to have any part in the biographical musical Hamilton which is about the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and the political history of the early United States.

“Right now, I’m really into Hamilton ever since na pumasok ako sa teatro. So kahit ensemble lang ako, nasa background lang ako,” she admitted.

Angela started out her career during the lockdown in 2020 when she uploaded clips of herself singing her song “Ako Naman Muna” which went viral on TikTok. She signed on with Star Music and Star Magic in 2021 and since then, her compositions have been featured on ABS-CBN programs, including “Sila Pa Rin” for Marry Me, Marry You and “Hanggang Sa Muli” for How to Move On in 30 Days among others.
