Michelle was married to her first husband, Dickson Poon, back in 1988 but decided to part ways after four years of marriage. For her, being unable to bear children was a “main factor” as to why she wasn’t successful with her first marriage.

Despite this, she maintained it was the best decision for the both of them as she couldn’t see herself “a family that he craves” several decades later. Dickson later remarried and had children in his next marriage with his eldest child being the godson of Michelle.

The Oscar Best Actress awardee admitted that it took her a long time to deal with the fact that she couldn’t bear children but came to a conclusion that she had to stop blaming herself for the outcome she didn’t want.

“I think the worst moment to go through is every month you feel like such a failure… and then you go, why? And I think at some point you stop blaming yourself. I go, there are certain things in your body that doesn't function in a certain way. That's how it is,” she added.

Michelle, at 62 years old, revealed that she still has thoughts of having a baby every now and then but she is still grateful for her grandchild courtesy of her stepson.
