Cannes Film Festival remembers Jaclyn Jose

MANILA -- Festival de Cannes has paid tribute to award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose who passed away on March 2 due to heart attack.

Jose, real name Mary Jane Guck, made history when she won the Best Actress award in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for her role in "Ma'Rosa." 

On its social media post, the international film festival remembered Jose, the Philippines first actor to win as they uploaded her photo, which shows off her award.

"On learning of the death of Filipina actress Jaclyn Jose, the Festival de Cannes remembers her face beaming with emotion when she received the Award for Best Actress in 2016 in Brillante Mendoza's Ma'Rosa. As with so many of her roles, she illuminated this beautiful portrait of a woman, embodying it with grace and humanity," the post read.

Jose, who started acting in the 1980s, was playing the role of prison warden Dolores Espinas on "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" at the time of her death.

In the local scene, Jose received acting accolades from Gawad Urian, Famas, Luna Awards and other award-giving bodies.

She earned a FAMAS nomination in 1984 for her debut on "Private Show," and a Gawad Urian for Lino Brocka's 1985 film "White Slavery."

On television, her portrayal of Magda in the series "Mula sa Puso" took her popularity to new heights.
