MANILA -- Actress Jodi Sta. Maria has ventured into producing.

Aside from being the lead actress, Sta. Maria will produce the newest iWant online series "My Single Lady," together with Dreamscape Entertainment

Joining her in the 6-part online drama series, which will be directed by Carlo Catu, are Zanjoe Marudo and Ian Veneracion.

"I'm very excited for this project and at the same time kinakabahan because I'm embarking on a new role. But I'm also thankful doon sa naging proseso namin nina direk at 'yung cast na nabuo namin para sa 'My Single Lady,'" Sta. Maria told reporters on Wednesday.

Asked why she decided to try her hand at producing, Sta. Maria said: "Personality ko rin. I am the type of person who would try to do something new na parang I would like to venture into things na I've never done before and it gives me a different kind of challenge."

"I really want to understand more 'yung trabaho behind the camera because for the past how many years I've always been in front of the camera. So now parang naisip ko bakit 'di ko naman subukan ang trabaho sa likod ng camera," added Sta. Maria, who plays a single mother, Chona, in the series.

"She's trying to survive sa life. Mayroon siyang 7-year-old boy na si Red. Sa kanya ang importante ay mag-survive silang mag-ina and backseat muna ang love kasi ang focus niya is really the child. But she's fun, she's light and a big fan of Regine Velasquez na lumaki siya na ang akala niya si Regine ang nanay niya. Super fan siya ni Regine," Sta. Maria shared.

For his part, director Catu said the series is his "love letter" to his sister, who is a single mother.

"'Yun talaga ang (konsepto) ng 'My Single Lady' na may karapatan silang magmahal ulit, kiligin ulit, isuot ang white wedding dress. All these, mga tanong ng ate ko ito," said Catu, adding that he and Dreamscape Entertainment head immediately thought of Sta. Maria for the project.

"Ang 'My Single Lady' ay pelikula na maraming 'P' -- pagtanggap, pagpapatawad, pagiging matatag, pagiging ina, pamilya, pag-ibig, 'prendship' at Pamaskong handog ng iWant," Catu added.

Meanwhile, Veneracion and Marudo also shared their excitement for being part of "My Single Lady," their first-ever online series.

"Nung sinabi sa akin definitely, of course, I'm going to support Jodi. Ang ganda ng concept, ng script, ng dialogue, so parang lalo akong na-excite siyempre," said Veneracion who worked with Sta. Maria in "Darating Ang Umaga,"the 2015 TV series "Pangako Sa 'Yo" and the movie "The Achy Breaky Hearts."

"Kasi hindi lang ako nandito dahil sa sumsusuporta ako sa kaibigan kung hindi gusto ko rin talaga 'yung project," he said.

For his part, Marudo said he accepted the project because of his challenging role.

"Marami na naman akong nagawang light pero first time ko na makakagawa ng ganitong character. Siyempre makakatrabaho ko si Jodi for the first time si TV, tapos may romantic ano pa. Tapos si Ian," said Marudo, who worked with Sta. Maria in the horror film "Maria Leonora Teresa."
