MANILA — “Hello, Love, Goodbye,” Star Cinema’s OFW drama starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, is now the highest grossing Filipino film of all time.

After over a month in Philippine cinemas and with international screenings still rolling, the Cathy Garcia-Molina film has totaled P880,603,490 in worldwide earnings as of September 3, according to Star Cinema.

The milestone was announced Tuesday night during a thanksgiving party celebrating the success of “Hello, Love, Goodbye.” The event gathered the film’s cast, its creative and production teams, as well as executives of ABS-CBN.

The historic run of “Hello, Love, Goodbye” cements Bernardo’s status as a box-office superstar, and Garcia-Molina’s as a blockbuster director.

In fact, with this new achievement, the long-time collaborators broke their own record. Their 2018 film, “The Hows of Us,” also a Star Cinema production where Bernardo starred opposite her real-life boyfriend Daniel Padilla, was previously the highest grossing Philippine film with over P800 million in global gross — until “Hello, Love, Goodbye” surpassed that.

Bernardo and Garcia-Molina now effectively hold the distinction of being the only actress and director with two films earning more than P800 million each.

Apart from its box-office performance, “Hello, Love, Goodbye” has been considered a landmark project with the pairing of Bernardo and Richards, respective homegrown talents of rival networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7.

They also belong to the biggest love teams in local showbiz — KathNiel and AlDub — and had admittedly anticipated backlash from loyal fans of their established tandems. But there was no need to worry after all as “Hello, Love, Goodbye” was seen to unite fan groups, and even won over new supporters for Bernardo and Richards.

The overwhelming reception to the film written by Carmi Raymundo has even spurred talks of a sequel, with Bernardo and Richards expressing interest in returning, on the condition that the same creative team, specifically Garcia-Molina, will be on board as well.

That may take a while, however, as Garcia-Molina is due for a self-imposed break to attend to personal matters after two more projects with Star Cinema.
