Eugene Domingo portrays a hilariously narcissistic version of herself in ‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 3.’ iWant/Dreamscape Digital

“Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” is back and is uproarious as ever. After acclaimed back-to-back films, the third installment from Marlon Rivera and Chris Martinez comes in the form of an iWant original mini-series.

Still starring Eugene Domingo as a larger-than-life and narcissistic version of herself, “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 3” follows Eugene, the character, as she mounts a biopic of Josephine Branken which she directs, produces, and also stars in as the titular character.

The pilot episode, which shows Eugene recruiting director Joey Reyes (who also plays himself) as her collaborator, is available in full on YouTube.

“Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 3” also stars Mylene Dizon, Joanna Ampil, and Tony Labrusca as themselves. Labrusca, in the character Eugene’s film, is a hunky Jose Rizal, while Dizon and Ampil play the hero’s sisters Nercisa and Saturnina.

The Jeepney Wine Tour returns to take wine lovers on a boozy trip around the Makati Central Business District, featuring wine pairings across four different stops.

This year's tour will start at Greenbelt and will have four stops -- Tartufo, Society Lounge, Elbert's Collective, and will end near where it started at Mamou. Each stop will feature wines paired with the restaurant's curated menu from selected producers -- Tedeschi from Italy, Grand Fidèle from France, Faustino from Spain, and Bread and Butter from the United States.

While AWC (A Wine Company) and its retail arm Winedrop still organize traditional wine dinners, they're better-known for out-of-the-bottle wine activities that make knowing about wine happy communal experiences.

Casino Du Vin, first launched back in 2023, is a great example of these unconventional ideas. Of note was the Casino Du Vin launched at the Grand Hyatt back in 2023, where guests would test their noses and palates in three games.

"Guess That Wine" where one does a blind tasting and figure out if it's a red, rosé, or white wine; "On The Nose" where one takes a sniff from a wine sensory set and guess the scent; and "Wines of the World" which involves another blind sip if it's a New World or an Old World wine, and the more hardcore wine lovers can guess the country of origin. Casino Du Vin is currently an add-on activity for private events and parties held at the Winedrop Makati branch.

They sneak in wine education in these activities -- for example, for the Mactan Wine Cruises they hold during the Cebu Food and Wine Festival. There was a contrast to the light chilled whites and rosés from New Zealand winery Alan Scott paired with pass-arounds from collaborator hotel Shangri-La Mactan to the full-bodied reds with the post-cruise dinner.

Their next project is a combination golf-wine tasting tournament dubbed "Sip and Swing" which will be held in Mimosa. They're still in the planning stages but the base idea is to have a wine station every three holes. This is still a tournament, so there will be prizes up for grabs.

JP Guillot, managing partner of AWC, noted that the wine market here is still small but slowly improving. He cited the popularity of American restaurants where the beverage of choice are colas and iced teas; tourists ordering cocktails or cold beers, particularly when travelling out of Manila, because of the improper storage and serving of wine.

But because of renewed focus on gastronomy, restaurants are more conscious of properly pairing, serving, and storing wine.

One insight he had was with the traditional wine dinners, where the food and wine are the focus and guests just get to interact with people beside them, if at all. In this case, it would be a more comfortable experience to just go out with friends and just order food and wine a la carte rather than sitting down to dinner with complete strangers.

"Wine should be fun! Wine should be about creating experience! Wine is an excuse to bring different people together!" he said.

It may seem counterintuitive. But coming from Guillot, the wines are really not the number one focus of the Jeepney Wine Tour and the team's other initiatives. He said it's more about people having fun, discovering new places, and meeting new people -- all while enjoying and discovering wine.

"Wine is something that brings people from different social lives, different businesses, different ages, different nationalities, and different religions. Wine is just the excuse of all being together and tipsy in a place that we might never have met before. Because of these events, we say 'Hello. I'm glad to meet you' at the beginning of the event. And at the end of the event, we are best friends," he said.

The Jeepney Wine Tour takes off on February 15 and is priced at P5,990 per ticket. For inquiries and reservations, please DM the WineDrop Team on their Instagram page @winedrop.life.
