MANILA—It's been 10 years since the first FlipTop rap battle.

And to celebrate how it kickstarted a creative boom in the local rap industry, its organizers have announced plans for what would be the biggest hip-hop music festival in the country's history.

The "FlipTop Festival" is a two-day event, set for February 7 and 8 at the concert grounds of Aseana City, Parañaque, that will feature more than 200 artists from all over the Philippines.

Led by OPM icon Gloc-9, the others in the lineup are Shanti Dope, PriceTagg, Ron Henley, Al James, Illustrado, Smugglaz, Dello, Kemikal Ali, Arbie Won, Abra, Shehyee, Supreme Fist, Shernan, Sino, Tipsy D, and Zaito, to name some stand-outs.

There will also be a "Dos Por Dos" type of battle rap showdown between Sinio and Tipsy D against Jonas and Lhipkram, a special treat for fans of the FlipTop format.

FlipTop was founded by Anygma, whose real name is Alaric Riam Yuson.

Since then, and across the past decade, it has amassed more than 1.5 million views on YouTube alone, a testament to the popularity of the platform for aspiring rappers.
