Kamsami! Hallyu fans—and we mean both K-pop and K-Drama stans—let’s march to the movies! From the team that brought you your favorite live entertainment productions and K-pop concerts, Pulp Studios is shaking up the local movie scene with its first ever movie project, dubbed as a Philippine-Korean collab, titled Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul.

The movie stars the nation’s momshie Melai Cantiveros-Francisco in a film executive produced by Happee Sy-Go, also the beloved Inang of Pulp Live World, and directed by K-entertainment host Kring Kim. Cast members also include Karylle, Jennica Garcia, Alora Sasam, Bernadette Allyson-Estrada, Al Tantay, Pepe Herrera, and more.

Melai plays the role of policewoman Criselda Kaptan, coincidentally a hardcore K-pop and K-Drama fangirl, who had to deal with a criminal (Pepe Herrera) who escaped to South Korea leading her to fly to the land of kimchi and oppas on a secret mission. The result is a hilarious adventure that’s action-packed, awe-inducing given the sights and sounds that are uniquely found in Korea, and kilig-fest with the handsome oppas we never expected to see in the movie—all while it gets you roaring with laughter.

Metro.Style attended the red carpet premiere night of Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul and was privileged to catch an early screening of the action-comedy. In between the giggles and comedy gold moments that had us in stitches, we listed down the winning moments of this charming movie made for Hallyu-lovin’ Pinoy fans.

Melai as a strong yet hilarious female lead of the movie. Does this qualify as Pinoy Big Brother grandwinner Melai Cantiveros-Francisco’s comeback as a leading lady since she plays the titular role? She easily wins the hearts of viewers not only because Melai is such a natural when it comes to comedy but also because she portrays a relatable K-fangirl who finds rest and happiness in it. It helps that her character is also a cop bent on pursuing justice and ending the criminal who brought trouble to her and her friend Joy’s (Jennica) life.

Scenes are set in the popular, trendy spots of South Korea. It’s always worth watching a movie that doubles as an adventure and a tour overseas—in this case, South Korea. The action-comedy took the viewers to multiple popular and recognizable spots such as Gwangwhamun Square, Banpo Hangang Park, Myeongdong, DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), Inwang Market and Baekbeom Square in Namsan. It’s certainly a feast for the eyes.

It features an interesting mix of supporting cast. First of all, it’s rare to get to watch a Filipino action-comedy starred by a band of female characters. In this movie, we see policewomen characters led by Melai, Karylle (as Olga Tentativa) and Jennica (Joy Salazar) with Alora (Yas Cordero) as a tour guide and a former Criminology student driving the plot. Even the supporting cast members representing the tour group guests are diverse, relatable and quite a funny mix of personalities—we get the rich Tita Gretch (Bernadette), the fun gay friend Polly (Enzo Almario), the sweet and charming K-pop and K-Drama stan Jenny (Sela Guia), the dedicated vlogger Ella (Manel Sevidal) and the K-Pop idol wannabe Prince Dizon (Dustin Mayores). Combine them all together and expect chaotic but hilarious moments.

The refreshing and hysterically funny chemistry of the Melai-Alora duo. Behold, we might be looking at a fresh cinematic duo that will send us laughing to tears. Melai and Alora are quite an onscreen pair playing off each other’s humor and natural comedic timing. We hope to see more of their banter, quick retorts and amusing exchange of lines and what could possibly be hilarious ad libs. After all, there’s a teaser at the end of the movie that could bring Ma’am Chief to another exciting assignment.

Shriek-inducing special appearances of favorite K-stars. (Warning: Spoilers ahead) The whole theater rocked with cheers, shriek and all-out collective kilig when beloved oppas Lee Seung Gi (My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Hwayugi: A Korean Odyssey, Vagabond) and Do Ji Han (Hwarang, 100 Days My Prince) graced the movie and appeared with the sweetest smiles on their faces (cue: slow motion and shalalala song). Jaws dropped, hearts stopped beating for a second and a loud cheer erupted from everyone upon seeing their handsome faces. Melai’s surely the luckiest actress in this movie having generous screentime with these favorite K-Stars. Watch out for other K-cameos in this movie and have fun spotting them as the story unfolds.

Bond over this PH-Korean action-comedy film with family, loved ones or friends. Catch Melai and your Hallyu favorites via Ma’am Chief: Shakedown in Seoul for a laugh-out-loud experience in theaters nationwide now. It’s going to be a wild ride to Seoul and more.
