After nine long years, Academy Award-winning Australian director, screenwriter and producer George Miller is back with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the much-anticipated return to the iconic dystopian world he created more than 40 years ago with the seminal Mad Max films.

The all-new original, standalone action adventure reveals the origins of the powerhouse character from the multiple Oscar-winning global smash Mad Max: Fury Road.

In this prequel, Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the title role. As the world fell, young Furiosa (Alyla Browne) is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme). While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials. As she devises a plan to find her way home, she meets Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke), the commander of the Citadel's first War Rig who becomes like her mentor.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. “The idea of this prequel has been with me for over a decade,” said Miller. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to the Festival de Cannes–along with Anya, Chris and Tom–to share Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. There is no better place than La Croisette to experience this film with audiences on the world stage.”

Divided into several parts, the film begins in Furiosa's home, the Green Place of Many Mothers, before she is abducted and taken by the horde of Warlord Dementus. For those who have seen Mad Max: Fury Road, it's interesting to see what the place originally looked like before it got ravished by the time she gets back in FR.

Throughout the film, Miller fleshes out Furiosa's backstory and makes it clear just how and why she became that badass by the time Charlize Theron played her. And while there are still echoes of Theron's performance as Furiosa, Taylor-Joy has her own take which is equal parts frail, epic, and jaw-dropping. Describing her character, Taylor-Joy said, 'When she sets her mind on something, that is it. You have no idea who you're dealing with.'

Praising the 28-year-old actress, who rose to fame through the Netflix miniseries The Queen's Gambit, Miller said, 'Anya brought something ferocious far beyond what I thought possible.'

Hemsworth also complemented Taylor-Joy's passion and depth in her portrayal, while Burke pointed out her remarkable grit with the 'real brutality' she showcased with her character.

And yes, the movie shows just how she lost her arm and how she replaced it with her steampunk prosthetic.Though prequels to beloved franchises often get a bad rep, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga manages to be an immersive film that demands to be watched in theaters immediately.

Miller some way, somehow added more interesting chapters to a story he first released in 1979. Aside from the bad names, it's a perfect movie, from the cast, the soundtrack, the stunts, and down to every single exploding motorcycle.
