MANILA- Robinsons Malls denied Wednesday that there were violations of COVID-19 safety protocols in its malls as it branded as "fake news" viral photos on social media showing crowds of shoppers.

Over the weekend, photos of throngs of mall shoppers circulated on social media just as the government eased lockdown protocols in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

"May mga kumalat na photos sa social media pero ang mga ito ay fake news," Arlene Magtibay, senior vice president and general manager of Robinsons Malls said in a public briefing.

Magtibay said the photos, supposedly showing scenes inside a Robinsons Mall over the weekend, were old ones taken at a Robinsons provincial mall that was used as a venue for the distribution of cash aid to poor families.

"Lahat po ng Robinsons Malls sa Metro Manila ay naging very peaceful at orderly po," she said.

Magtibay said mall tenants were provided with reopening guidebooks to ensure that COVID-19 precautionary measures are observed.

Malacañang earlier warned that malls would face closure if safety protocols are not followed.
