MANILA -- The Philippines must "elevate" its big data talent pool to harness the business and governance potential of mining information, an official of Ayala Corp said Tuesday.

At AC Health, analyzing the behavior of patients at its clinics can provide insights both for the company and the Department of Health, said its CEO, Paolo Borromeo.

Data science in the Philippines is in its "nascent" stage and "we need to build the talent base to support it," he said.

"What excites me is just what we can do. There's tremendous opportunity in terms of what we can do," he told The Briefing on ANC's Market Edge.

Companies are "sitting" on wealth of data that can help them better serve customers, he said.

Ayala Corp has a 5-pronged digital strategy that started in late 2017 and was recently presented to shareholders, he said.
