Its been a fancy few weeks for nail techs and nail enthusiasts alike—fashion designer Marc Jacobs has been serving social media his lengthy acrylic nail obsession and we're all for it!

Known for his expertise in creating some of the most sought-after fashion pieces in the world, the renowned fashion designer enjoys sharing on his personal Instagram account the his newfound fondness for nails. They're chic, trendy, outlandish long square-tipped fingers with lacquered artificial gems on top, and he's been clackity-clacking them nonstop! This fascination acts as a therapeutic session for Marc whenever he’s on the commute. In an Instagram post, he treated us to the gentle tapping sounds of a Lo-Fi chill-like session experience, unlocking a new ASMR-esque nail meditation.

Inspired by his mom, Marc has been very fond of wearing long nails ever since he was a kid. Apart from that, prominent figures such as Lil Kim, Flo-Jo, Missy, and Sha’Carri also became the influencers of his endearment with the craft. Likewise, Marc acknowledged where the cultural artistry came from. Originated in the 50s, this intensive chore mosaic-design manicure was quickly adopted by black women, encompassing both femininity and style within their culture, and later popularized by the figures mentioned above. Marc promptly commemorated the historic acrylic overlays, saying, “So here, not only do I give thanks to my nail techs, artists, and fellow long nail lovers, I also give credit and pay homage to the fabulous black women who fearlessly, proudly, and creatively paved the way. Period.”

Marc is not a fan of stiletto-shaped nails; instead, he finds greater admiration for his stunning 3XL square nail extension patterned through a French-style manicure. Yuleny Garcia, Marc’s nail tech and owner of Muneca Beauty Salon, extensively does the process of a single manicure, which takes about 7 to 8 hours to finish, including breaks and chit-chats with the fashion designer. Evidently, Marc chooses his preferred nail art, and one of his proud designs was the acrylics drawn from a chic figure in the 70’s tortoise shells, inspired by the Italian Interior Designer Renzo Mongiardino’s set of Nesting Tables.

Marc clarifies, this admiration is currently for himself, other plans of setting this up in the maison are not yet included among his plans for future collections.
