Philippine music channel MYX has an exciting announcement for music lovers as they bring back its MYX VJ Search and MYX Music Awards this year.

During their media conference, MYX revealed the return of their popular programs in the latter part of the year.

“This VJ search is really for that new generation right now. We want them to be part of this community of MYX,” ABS-CBN Global managing director Maribel Hernaez expressed.

When asked what qualities they are looking for in their new set of VJs, Maribel said that they want someone who is authentic.

“Basically, because this generation is about being authentic and that’s the primary thing that we would be looking for because that is a unique trait and criteria of this generation. You don’t have to look a certain way, speak a certain way. As long as you are a fan of music and you like broadcasting yourself, then why not? You can qualify,” she remarked.

“We are excited to see the next batch of VJs.”

Samm Alvero, one of the mainstay VJs of MYX, shared with PUSH what she enjoyed being part of the music channel.

“Every time somebody asked me what was my most memorable interview is, it is always hard to choose because I enjoy each and every one of them. I'm really a fangirl at heart and the reason why I’m even in MYX is because I’m such a fan of music. Like I said, I had no hosting experience but I became a MYX VJ because I got to know my favorite artists,” she said.

She went on: “It’s not just being able to meet my favorite artists but all the opportunities that MYX presented me, even outside, MYX has been incredible. It launched my career in hosting and helped me become a content creator.”

“That really brought me out of my shell, and it helped me become a more confident person, not just a host, but really a well-rounded person.”

MYX will announce the guidelines for the upcoming VJ search on their social media pages.

Meanwhile, the MYX Music Awards is “also coming back this November and is set to recognize today’s hitmakers who have been rocking the music scene and notable music videos worthy of views.”

The return of the two big segments and events of the music channel is in line with their rebranding, making a bigger and wider platform for Filipino music, artists, and talents to be recognized in the global music scene.

“We have a new tagline. It’s called 'the beat of our culture' because right now when we talk about Philippine music, we don’t just talk about ourselves but we also talked about Filipinos who are living outside the Philippines who are making a name for themselves as Filipinos and as artists,” Maribel shared.

Aside from the two events, MYX also reintroduces new programs and engaging content for fans and artists to enjoy, including MYX Hits Different, and the podcast The Ripple with VJ Samm and Nhiko Sabiniano of Nameless Kids.

They also gave a different flavor for MYX Live, which features artists such as Maymay, Janine, Maki, DEMI Felip, Nameless Kids, Darren, and Lola Amour. The show will air every Thursday, beginning September 5 on MYX YouTube Channel, with replays on MYX cable channel on Sundays at 8 p.m. 

They will also launch MYX YouTube Live, which will highlight its previous segment, MYX Countdown.

“Mayroon ulit bagong aabangan ang lahat ng mga music aficionados and music fans kung sino ang top charters natin for the week or for the day,” Maribel teased.
