Lovi Poe took to social media to celebrate her mother Rowena Moran, who turned a year older on Sunday, October 15.

Taking to Instagram, the FPJ’s Batang Quiapo star shared a photo of herself with her mom taken during her UK wedding to husband, Monty Blencowe last August.

“I hope to look at my future child the way my momma looks at me,” she wrote. “I thank the heavens for giving you to me, Mom. Your strength and wisdom taught me how to navigate through life; embraced me with such tenderness — that I wouldn’t be where I am without your love, guidance and support. I love you, Mom and I wish you all your heart’s desires for your birthday.”

Lovi is the daughter of Rowena, a former actress and commercial model, with late action star Fernando Poe, Jr. — also known as “Da King.”

In an interview with journalist Bernadette Sembrano for her vlog, Lovi opened up about her mother.

“My mom is… she’s a very private person. She’s always there but she doesn’t want to be seen in public. Like mga screenings ko, nahihiya siya when I [bring her]. Yeah, she’s very private talaga,” she said.

“She’s not kikay. She’s naturally beautiful. She rarely puts on makeup. She’s very elegant, very classy. Make her wear anything, she’s gonna look like a queen," she added.

Asked about her mother’s career as an actress, Lovi said: “She did some work in the past, yeah, but I don’t know [much about it because] she never really talked about it.”

Lovi said that her mother was initially against her wish to go into showbiz.

“It was my idea [to enter showbiz]. She doesn’t want me to… Ayaw niya. She’s been trying to get me out of ‘yung gusto ko. She already noticed when I was a kid growing up na talagang gusto ko. I would always sing sa school, do stage plays… all of these things. And mom was like, ‘Oh no, patay tayo diyan.’

She went on: “So, ipapasok niya ‘ko sa mga sports naman… gymnastics, everything na pwedeng ma-divert ‘yung attention ko. So ang nangyari, nakahiligan ko rin. Mahilig ako sa sports, mahilig ako sa dramas, sa singing… But I still ended up doing what I want, which I’m grateful for."

“I was 16 [when I started showbiz]. She was supportive naman when I sat down and I really talked to her about it," she continued.

On the qualities she got from her mother, Lovi said: “Weirdly, I am very private as well even if I’m an actress... I would like to say maalaga but no one tops her pag-aalaga eh, ‘yung pagiging maasikaso at maalaga niya.

“I guess ‘yung checking on the people I love, trying to make time no matter how busy. To be respectful, to handle things with grace as much as possible,” she added.

On growing up with a single mother, Lovi said she has nothing but love, respect, and admiration for her mom.

“I know she did her best. Lumaki ako na siya lang talaga ‘yung kasama ko. I would like to say that I was raised by a single mother, and I’m grateful for that and I’m proud of that. And that’s why I wouldn’t be as strong as I am today if it wasn’t for her,” she said.

“So thank you, Mom. Thank you Mom talaga. Nagba-bow ako sa lahat ng single moms because I know how hard it is. I’m a certain way because of her,” she added.
