Starting out as a model then actor and then becoming a director and a producer after opening his own production company, David Chua added another feather to his cap as the lone Philippine juror in the SOHO International Film Festival happening in New York City this month. The Dark Carnival CEO shared the happy news on his Instagram account.

He wrote,

“Dreams do come true. And amazing things happen when you least expect it. Privileged and honored to have been chosen and invited to be part of this distinguished panel of international jurors for this year’s SOHO international Film Festival in New York. Lots of work. But fascinating and such great training. So in October, New York, here I come. Ako’y isang #BatangMaynila at #LakingTundo taas nuo!“

The actor and director flew to New York earlier this month to attend the festival which according to their website, “celebrates the cutting-edge of digital technology while honoring traditional forms of storytelling, encourages new and seasoned filmmakers from here in New York City and around the globe to create and send in their fresh and innovative cinematic pieces.” The festival will run until October 13.

David said it was a big privilege for him to get the opportunity to meet other producers, directors, and filmmakers from all over the world.

"It's a filmmaker's haven! It's so inspiring to be around all these creative geniuses, and to be given the privilege of being one of the festival's esteemed jurors."

While staying abroad, David also shared his insight on the COVID restrictions in NYC. "You won't see people wearing face masks indoors or outdoors. There's this overall feeling of euphoria and camaraderie, I suppose, after being locked down for the past two years,” he added.

David attended the opening day of the SOHO international film festival last October 6 with his good friend, Kapamilya actress Yam Concepcion who is now based in the city. The two actors, who had worked together in Kapamilya teleseryes like Halik and Love Thy Woman, both shared photos and video clips of their reunion in their Instagram Stories.

"She dropped by because I messaged her that I'd be here and she was so sweet to come over just to show her support,” David explained.

The final deliberations for all the 2022 SOHO filmfest entries will be on October 13 where the winners announced shortly thereafter. Prior to his New York trip, David had already started his taping for his first TV starrer, 'Good Will, a Net 25 series slated for airing early next year.

After this trip, the busy filmmaker heads to Korea later this month and then is scheduled to do a series of tourism-related shoots in Singapore in November.
