In 2009 when Typhoon Ondoy hit the country, actress Cristine Reyes was stranded and trapped on the roof of her Marikina home while waiting to be rescued. She was eventually rescued by volunteer workers. This year, the 32-year-old actress reflected on her experience on social media after experiencing the magnitude 6.6 earthquake last Saturday, July 24.

More than a decade after Ondoy, she shared a post remembering her experience. She wrote, “Living on top of a building and then waking up with an earthquake made me jump out of my bed feeling so terrified.

This weather gives me anxiety. It reminded me of the devastating flash flood caused by typhoon ‘ondoy’. I have seen people got locked up trying to break their own windows and heard people screaming for help until you hear them no more. Some drowned and some like me were able to swim fast whilst assisting my precious little nieces, little sister and my mom. We all climbed up on the roof with baby snakes and rats dangling on my/our body. It was horrible and traumatic.”

In the same post, Cristine said she always turns to prayer when things get out of control.

“In times like this.. when you have no control of things around you. There’s only one thing I consistently do. I speak to HIM. Bihira ako manalangin pero naiiyak ako kasi kahit minsan lang ako lumapit palagi Siyang andyan. Palagi Niya akong sinasamahan. Siya talaga ang sandalan nating lahat,” she added.
